delayed gratification

in all my 28 years, i have never found an intact conch shell on the beach. never, ever! i thought those only washed up on exotic beaches in thailand or something. however, i found one today. it was a perfect specimen. i guess it washed up as a result of the stormy seas. i picked up it and started walking with it - so extraordinarly proud of my find! however, after 30 seconds of holding it... i felt guilty. i couldn't decide if i was guilty for interrupting mother nature or guilty for taking something that might be better enjoyed by someone else. i gently placed it back on the sand. an hour later, i'm on the pier looking down the beach. i see a couple walk by and watch as this man hands his significant other (girlfriend, wife?) an object. at that moment, i realized he found the conch shell.
